We speak of Christianity as being about having a personal relationship with Jesus, yet most of us are not so sure about how to do that, or if it is even really possible. Sarah Young’s book, “Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence” is a daily devotional for every day of the year. Each daily entry has a brief reading as the voice of Jesus and two or three Bible verses. During the week, we will read the devotionals and practice connecting with Jesus in our day-to-day lives. During our group time we will (1) experience one of the daily devotions, (2) participate in an experiential exercise of meeting with Jesus, (3) share with one another about our journey during the week and (4) pray for one another. If you have desire to grow in relationship with Jesus and want to join others in that experience, join us on Friday evenings.

We will come together on Sunday evenings to share a meal, life, and learning over the long-term. We will provide soup and group members will bring sides and extras for our meal each week.

We’ll be exploring the importance of spiritual practices or “habits” in shaping our loves, affecting our spiritual health, and growing our relationships with God, other believers, and the world. Some weeks we will be covering material from the first two chapters of the book, “You Are What You Love” and passages of Scripture. Other weeks we will be sharing about our experiences of putting new habits into practice.

At the end our of nine weeks together, we will decide if we want to continue meeting together, and if so, what direction to take.

Materials needed: Bible; Sides/extras for our weekly meal

When we learn WHY we do the things we do, we are empowered to focus on healing our wounds and changing our behaviors. Then we begin to grow, mature and develop true character and healthy relationships. Life Skills equips us to break free from, and to reverse, the cycle of family dysfunction passed down generationally. Life Skills helps fix the brain’s thinking and its associated protective behaviors, which were a result of a lifetime of wounding.

We will cover about 1 lesson per week throughout the course.
